A Saskatchewan-based lady from Kelowna: I don’t care anymore

Visiting the drylands Kelowna (British Columbia), I met many beloved people from its’ local Deaf community.

One of the testimonial stories to share:

Grew up through oralism, my mother tells me to speak and wear my hearing aids. I could somehow manage to hear and speak, thriving those headaches. I had to wear them, I could speak and hear well. One day, one of my kids… my daughter noticed and asked what the beneficial of wearing the aids would be… I replied, well, they help somehow but supported by painstakingly headaches. She said, you communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) and you understand English so well, what use does the aids really bring to you if you are suffering bad headaches? I replied, well, my mother and my family, they don’t communicate in ASL… y’know.

Later on, she approached my mother – why are you expecting her to use the hearing aids to your own benefits? Why have you never learnt ASL to develop comfortable and headache-less relationship with your daughter?

My mother wasn’t happy and she cut me out of her life after that.

I reacted, my, why? It must be so hard!?

She replied, but I don’t care anymore.

Note: Happily married with three lovely kids, and far from headache home.
